After her father is taken by the tyranical Fransisco “Curro” Santiago, Proserpina leaves her hometown of Poca Noche for the first time and embarks on a journey across the island of Tonagua to retrieve him. Along the way she enlists the help of “master” thief, Adriano Kranz and her 12 year old cousin, Achcauhtli and other interesting characters.
Proserpina is a personal project that allows me to study Nicaraguan history and culture, as well as other Latin American cultures. The story takes loose inspiration from the play, El Güegüense, that focuses heavily on Anti-Colonialism of Nicaragua.
